Hello all!
I'm sorry, I know I am an appalling correspondent and not worthy of your love, but bear with me. It has slowly but surely emerged as a fact in our collective consciousness that on the sort of punishing schedule we have set ourselves, there is pretty much no time to sit down, let alone write you long and flowery blog posts about the wonders of Northern Africa so far.
It's been good, and we are all reasonable healthy, although not COMPLETELY so.
Here is a fascinating and detailed litany of my health complaints: eight blisters, including one that developed on top of another, asthma from the pollution and stress, pussy piercing sites from the rotten earring I brought over, constant dehydration and heat exhaustion, and constant muscle pain from the many many many kilometres we walk every day, in a vain attempt to save money and not be swindled by skullduggerous taxi drivers. Jenny and Dana also suffer from many of these complaints, as well as various cuts and bruises. And we smell REALLY REALLY BAD.
Despite all of this, I am having a truly fabulous time. So far, my favourite part has been the Roman ruins at Volubilis. We cleverly went in the hottest part of the day, and thus went clambering over steps and stones and walls and hills in over 40 degree heat without water for two hours. Honestly I barely noticed. It was just so exciting. Today we went to the Egyptian Museum and spent SIX HOURS looking at their very extensive collection. Rabat was a pleasant city, much cooler because of the sea breezes and less touristy because there aren't a lot of big attractions, although the Chellah/Sala Colonia ruins were a lot of fun and I also enjoyed the Archeology Museum. Tonight we might go to the Khan Al-Kalili market, depending on how exhausted we are!
Our plans for tomorrow is to spend the day at the Giza pyramids, quotas and fate allowing, and then catch the night train to Aswan.
I am fully diarising this trip - pages and pages - so fuller accounts to come, but we are cheap and internet costs money. Plus it's Dana's turn.
Love and miss you, hope you appreciate the beauty of being really COLD!
